From Olea europaea, an evergreen tree native to the Mediterranean region, cold pressed olive oil is put through a centrifuge to separate soap-forming components from unsaponifiables (fatty acids and phytocompounds).  The most potent part of olive oil unsaponifiables, have high levels of natural antioxidants, phytosterols, squalene, and carotenoids that slow down the aging process by reducing the breakdown of collagen and locking in hydration. Commonly used in skin and haircare to impart a silky feel and reduce frizz and dryness, it also helps the spreadability of products.
